Buying the perfect board game for someone as a gift can be daunting. It doesn’t need to be! Here at Board Game Supply, we want to make sure you buy a game that the recipient will love. To assist you with your shopping experience, we have created our innovative board game finder (Ask Gerry). In this post, we’re going to go into detail on how to use the board game finder and what answers you should give to each question.

Step 1. Open board game finder (Ask Gerry)

The first step is to open the board game finder in a new tab of your internet browser so you may follow these steps along the way.

Step 2. Select your budget

Scroll down the page until you see the first question ‘What is your budget?’. Once you see the first question ‘what is your budget’, you will need to left-click and drag on either handle of the slider and move the cursor in either direction to set your minimum and maximum budget. By selecting a minimum and maximum budget amount, the board game finder will only show you games within the budget selected.

The slider handles are the white circles with purple outlines on either end of the slider as pictured above.

Step 3. Select the number of players

Once you have selected your budget, scroll down to the next slider with the question ‘How players would you like the game to support?’. Once you have located the number of players slider, you will need to left-click and drag on either handle of the slider and move the cursor in either direction to select the number of players. This slider will ensure only games that support the range of players you have selected will be suggested. For example, if you select 2 – 4 players, all games that support 2, 3 and/or 4 players will be displayed.

If you are unsure of how many people will play with the person receiving the gift, we suggest selecting 2 -4 players for individuals who will play with a small group of friends. If you’re buying the game for someone who will use the game for entertainment at parties, we suggest selecting 2 – 8 players.

Step 4. Select the suitable age ratings

After selecting the number of players, scroll down to the next slider, which will ask you ‘What age ratings are suitable for the players?’. Once you have located the slider, you will click and drag one or both of the slider handles to select the range of age ratings suitable.

For example, if you select age ratings between 10+/17+ all games with age ratings of 10+,11+,12+,13+,14+,15+,16+ and 17+ will be displayed.

Step 5. Select the complexity rating

Once you have located the slider, you will need to left-click and drag the handles of the slider and to select the complexity rating of the board games that will be suggested. Here is what complexity ratings we suggest:

  • New to board games: low – very low complexity rating
  • Familiar with board games: low – medium complexity rating
  • Experienced with board games: low – very high complexity rating

Step 6. Review the suggested board games
